Even so, many cosmetic products still use animal-derived raw materials – for example the red dye carmine, for which lice are killed, or ingredients such as emu oil, mink oil and collagen, which are sometimes even found in natural cosmetics.

The term “vegan” is not legally protected, so in principle any manufacturer can use it. Our vegan products are accordingly certified by the Vegan Society – you’ll find the seal on the packaging or on the relevant product page.

Why are FAIR SQUARED products consistently vegan?

At FAIR SQUARED, we want to be fair not only to our producers and the environment, but also to the animals we share this planet with. That’s why, for our vegan products, we deliberately avoid any ingredients of animal origin, regardless of how they are obtained. Whether a product is vegan can be recognised by the Vegan Society seal on the packaging or on the relevant product page.

Do you also make sure that no animals are harmed when sourcing your raw materials?

Yes: for us, “vegan” doesn’t just mean that a finished product contains no animal-derived ingredients — it also means that no animals are used, kept or harmed in obtaining the raw materials. That’s why, when selecting our raw materials, we already make sure that no animals are used for cultivation, harvesting or processing.

Are your condoms and menstrual cups vegan too? What makes them special?

Yes: many conventional natural-rubber products are manufactured using casein, a milk protein that gives the latex extra suppleness. Our natural-rubber condoms and menstrual cups are made entirely without casein and are accordingly certified as vegan by the Vegan Society.

FAQ on Veganism What can be non-vegan about cosmetics, and what does that actually mean?
